Restoring The Republic Event
Our Restoring The Republic event brought positive energy to all who attended! It was an amazing event.
We would like to thank all who participated, and all who attended.
Professor William Wagner gave an incredible keynote, and Katherine Bussard, Miguel Pilar, and Kenneth Tacoma provided an excellent panel discussion!
Our socal hour music by Bill Barnett was outstanding!
Our elected officials and their representatives spoke on issues specific to us and their office.
The silent auction helped round out the event well and helped with the costs involved in the event.
We have heard so much positive feedback and we welcome this enthusiasm in our local party to continue.

Our Energy Panel with experts Jason Hayes and Tom King was riveting! We covered a range of problems facing the energy plans that the state of Michigan and our energy providers are proposing.
We recommend that you reach out to the Michigan Public Service Commission if you have concerns on energy reliability: www.michigan.gov/mpsc/consumer/complaints |

MLIVE Article: Natural Gas Costs Forecasted To Skyrocket This Winter
At the state level, Michigan House Representative Yousef Rabhi just submitted House Joint Resolution Y, which calls for the creation of a “state public utility board.” The board would “purchase or acquire by eminent domain all of the electric and natural gas generation, distribution, or transmission facilities owned by any investor-owned utility in this state.” Then the board would authorize the issue of bonds to cover the costs of acquiring these properties and be empowered to “set all rates, fares, fees, charges, services, rules, conditions of service, and all other matters pertaining to the formation, operation, or direction of the state public utility.
Anderson said the concern is the energy transition from fossil fuels to renewable resources is hampered by a few factors: a backup of new renewable generation proposals awaiting review and authorization from the regional grid operator; need for more long-range transmission lines to buy power from other states; and new technologies that can carry electricity baseloads when renewable sources such as wind and solar aren’t generating."
" From a timing aspect, it’s going to take us the better part of a decade or two to really transition through all this. There’s a lot of planning and coordination that needs to occur,” " Anderson said.
“For us to integrate more and more renewables, you need something that’s there backing it up to manage it. Natural gas peakers {power plants that generally run only when there is a high demand for electricity, in order to balance the grid. Gas peaking plants used compressed natural gas to generate this power} can do that and do that really well today, but we need more of those or some other technology that can be fast ramping and responsive to manage daily changes in weather or just the natural rhythm of life.”
